Some of the ways I have used highlighter tape:
Student highlights phrases in the current fiction book, that the he wants to write/transfer into their daily reading journal.
Highlight similies.
Find new vocabulary words
Students might use longer highlight tape to mark interesting dialogue.
Highlight character traits
Highlight their grades / progress reports to see what's missing
Highlight the most important points, change and move these during class discussion
Ways I have used fidgets:
Kneadable erasers - great for late elementary or middle school students. Available from art stores, or catalogs such as School Specialty.
Encourage kids to use "quiet" fidgets during listening times, or quiet work times.
Some students use during test taking.
Some Wiki's I have found:
www.pase.pbwiki.com
Some websites I have found useful:
www.bubbl.us/ great free digital mapping and brainstorming tool.
www.premierathome.com/ Premier text to speech software
www.educatebetter.org Visual Literacy resources from Lynell Burmark
www.kidsclick.com/ media specialist designed site with student web resources
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/CIA factbook
My favorite reading supports:
Use a bookmark filled with different colored sticky notes. Each sticky note represents a different literary connection. When the student places the colored sticky note in their book, they will be able to remember what type of connection they had. Example: Blue represents Text to Self
Place vocab words on wall, under picture of book on classroom wall. Students check them off as they master them.
My favorite writing supports:
Using Universal Reader or other text-to-speech to listen to and edit my own writing.
Use Inspiration to organize ideas before writing.
knightcite.com - MLA formatting site
